Fun Fact: Many people have asked about the name of my site: well, when my Mom was a little girl, her favourite TV show was "Little House on the Prairie," and she vowed that if she ever had a daughter when she grew up, she would name her Melissa (after the lead actress, Melissa Gilbert). Fast forward to today, and I thought this was the perfect way to honour my Mom's memory and pay homage to my roots! And being a tiny house with less than 200 square feet, it just may be the littlest house on the prairie...!
HI! I'M MELISSA, AND THIS IS MY DAD, IRWIN!
Growing up on a farm, I always loved watching my Dad build and fix things, amazed at all he knew. He and my Mom imparted an appreciation for the simple things in life and the recognition that happiness doesn't come from a store. Now that I'm an adult, it was an easy decision to take those philosophies and transition to a tiny house. Being the handiest guy I know, I asked my Dad if he would help me build one, and he agreed!

Neither of us are professional builders, but we took what knowledge we had, consulted with LOTS of other people, watched countless YouTube videos, and decided to take it one step at a time!

We're doing the build on our old family farm (thanks Uncle Bert and Auntie Connie!) in southwestern Manitoba, and though it's taking us a while, I wouldn't trade this time with my Dad for anything! Have we made mistakes? UH YEAH. Has it stopped us? NO WAY! Has it been the most fun project I've ever undertaken? HECK YES!
