Applying Spray Cork!

Updated: Oct 20, 2020

The time has come! Randy from Innovative Cork was gracious enough to allow me to watch, learn, and even assist (a tiny little bit) in the application of the Thermal Cork Guard. If you missed my last post that talked about the spray cork product, click here. I love everything about spray cork: it's non-toxic, breathable, flexible, durable, lightweight, environmentally friendly, energy efficient, and it looks great! On top of that, it acts as a thermal insulator, water barrier, sound dampener, and fire retardant.

The cork comes premixed with the resin, and then you add your colouring (I chose gun metal grey, but there are 28 different colours to choose from, and they can even create custom colours for you!) and liquid silicone (so that it sprays evenly).

There's a fancy-dancy spinner machine thingy (I'm pretty sure that's the technical term) to mix it thoroughly before it's added to the hopper in the spray gun.

Then the air compressor spraying machine doo-dad (also a technical term) is turned on, and Randy starts spraying the cork onto the plywood.

After the first coat is done, we must wait at least 24 hours before applying the second coat. Having it inside a shed helped IMMENSELY, as this eliminated weather-related risks such as rain and high winds. I cannot imagine the stress of having to do this work outside, only to have it cancelled last minute because the weather has turned. Props to Randy and everyone at Innovative Cork for staying positive and upbeat in the face of Mother Nature's fickle ways!

Randy did a FANTASTIC job on the exterior, and I can't wait until he returns to spray the interior. I'm thrilled with how well it turned out! It looks exactly how I had imagined, and I couldn't be happier! Thank you Innovative Cork, and especially to Randy!

It kinda looks like stucco, but it's almost rubbery and far more durable. I absolutely love it! Did I mention that I'm very happy?!?
