The Plans

Once I made the decision to build a tiny house, I then had bigger questions ahead of me: What type? What style? What size?

I knew I wanted to build a tiny house on wheels because I was unsure as to the final destination. I figured if it’s on wheels, I could work on the build while searching for land. It’s a good thing I decided this, for I’m two years into the build and STILL haven’t found the right piece of land…!

The next step was figuring out the size. I opted for a 24’ trailer with dual axles, as this could feasibly be towed with a one-ton truck.

Now for the style: I had attended a tiny house building workshop in Vancouver, BC, presented by Tumbleweed Tiny Houses. While I absolutely loved the seminar, the styles of tiny houses they build (rustic, cottage-feel) didn’t quite fit my tastes. After dozens – if not hundreds – of Google searches and YouTube videos, I stumbled upon the one. It’s called “hOMe”, and not only did I appreciate its sleek, modern, and minimalist style, the tranquil name lent itself to the feeling that I want to embrace in my own tiny house.

The builders of “hOMe” – Gabriella and Andrew Morrison offer their plans for purchase on their site, Tiny House Build. Because “hOMe” is built on a 28’ trailer, and I had already decided on a 24’ trailer, I had to modify their plans. Cutting out 4’ sounds simple, right? Well, when you only have 24’ to work with, every inch counts…! I hired someone who knew SketchUp to help me make the edits, and voila! I have my version of “hOMe”…!
